National Payroll Week begins
The Institute of Payroll Professional's (IPP) annual industry awareness event, National Payroll Week, begins today.
Running until the 10th of September, National Payroll Week aims to raise the profile of payroll administration and other areas of payroll processing services within the business world. Payroll professionals have been invited by the IPP to encourage their organisations to take part in the event, with the aim of beating last year's total of nearly 1,000 participating organisations.
"NPW recognises the hard work, effort and invaluable contributions payroll staff do on a day-to-day basis," says the IPP. "The week acknowledges and celebrates the many abilities of payroll staff, who ensure millions of people are paid the right amount at the right time, every day period."
The IPP suggests that staff in payroll administration act as ambassadors for their profession by engaging with other members of their organisation over this year's theme, "proud to be payroll." They have provided several suggestions on their website, such as inviting representatives from the IPP to speak at a company event or posting messages about NPW on the company intranet.
During National Payroll Week, the IPP has also made its PAYE calendar app for the iPhone free to download to all of its members. This app contains all the key PAYE deadlines for the 2010/11 tax year on a month-by-month basis, helping to ensure that payroll departments ensure that employer's PAYE contributions are sent on time and thus avoid the upcoming penalty regime for late payments.
